Arizona Transit Information Related to the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Overview

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) was signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17. It includes measures to modernize our nation's infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief and protect those in greatest need.

ADOT will receive an estimated $14.1 million for transit projects statewide under the Recovery Act. Funding is allocated to the current Section 5311 Rural Transportation Programs based on needs to maintain or expand the transportation systems. The funding will be expended to support capital projects that include transit vehicle purhcases, construction of transit facilities to include bus and passenger shelters, vehicle maintenance equipment, computers and communications equipment.

Construction of the City of Coolidge and the City of Cottonwood transit facilities is expected to be completed by November 2009. The remainder of capital transit projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act must be complete within three years.
