State Route 92 San Pedro River Bridge Replacement

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, will begin work in September 2016 to replace the State Route 92 bridge spanning the San Pedro River in southern Cochise County.

The $4.3 million project will replace the existing bridge, constructed in 1955, with a modern three-span structure that meets current bridge standards.

Work is scheduled to begin September 6, following the Labor Day weekend, with crews clearing vegetation in the vicinity of the bridge, located 20 miles south of Sierra Vista at approximately milepost 340 on State Route 92.

In mid-September, the south half of the bridge that serves eastbound traffic will be demolished while traffic in both directions uses the north side of the bridge. A temporary traffic signal will control traffic using the open travel lane around the clock during this project. Delays of approximately five minutes can be expected.

When reconstruction of the south half of the bridge is complete in December, the north half of the bridge will be demolished and replaced. The project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Crews will work weekdays from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., with work hours shifting to 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. during the winter months when sunrise is later.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will provide information about the project as it progresses.
